Introducing our new caregiver coaching program! We have created a total of nine different programs for our caregivers. Our goal is to have our caregivers attend four of the nine program courses a year. These program courses are meant to provide you with additional resources outside of your participant’s current programming. The programs are:
Help I’m in Crisis!
In this program you will learn how to use a variety of strategies to de-escalate problem behaviors in the moment. You will be provided with a list of strategies to pick from and shown exactly how to implement these strategies yourself.
Going out can be Hard
In this program you will learn strategies to use BEFORE problem behaviors occur. This will be more specific to out in the community but can be generalized to the home setting as well. We will discuss the many diverse types of strategies you can use, show you how to implement them yourself, and provide you with real life examples.
Reinforcement, Reinforcement, Reinforcement
In this program you will learn how to incorporate reinforcement into your child’s daily life. Reinforcement should not just be used during ABA time. We will define and explain reinforcement, provide examples, and help you figure out what is reinforcing to your child.
Prompting This and Prompting That
In this program we will discuss the many types of prompts that can be used. Prompts should be used to increase the likelihood a person will emit the correct response. Prompts can decrease frustration and errors when learning a new skill. We will provide examples of how to prompt, when to prompt, and how to avoid over-prompting.
Ugh, Teaching Self-Care
In this program we will discuss activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs are an important part of life, and it can make a huge difference when someone is more independent in completing them. We will discuss how to go about teaching different ADLs and which ADLs to tackle first.
Sleep Routines can be Exhausting
This program will revolve around sleep routines. Many of our clients struggle with having a good sleep schedule. We will discuss how to improve sleep schedules, how to provide consistency, and how to set expectations and rules for bedtime.
Daily Routines can Make or Break you
This program will discuss the importance of schedules and daily routines. We all know how a lack of regularity can turn a day upside down. This program will provide sample daily schedules, explain the importance of a schedule, and how to get through the weekend.
Food/Mealtime Madness
This program will discuss the difficulties that come with eating different foods and other behaviors that come with mealtimes. Struggling at mealtimes is extremely common. This program will provide you with supports to use during meals, explain strategies that can be used, and talk through behaviors associated with mealtime.
Saying “no” Without Saying “no”
This program will focus on learning how to say “no” without actually saying “no”. As we all know, it can be extremely difficult to eliminate the word “no” from our vocabulary. This program will discuss why the word “no” should be avoided, what phrases we can use instead, and explain how avoiding “no” can better our communication and strengthen our empathy with our children.
